Steps to Learn Dreamweaver

Steps To Learn Web Design With Adobe Dreamweaver

You have probably heard that if you want to efficiently build a scalable website, that Adobe’s Creative Suite with Dreamweaver is a good path. To use Dreamweaver to build your hypertext markup language (HTML) code makes your website easier and faster to build and maintain.

Many of our Dreamweaver class students do quite a bit of research about web design before they arrive in my Dreamweaver class. They use a variety of resources to learn Dreamweaver. Here i’ll discuss some resources to teach you Dreamweaver web design. Inevitably, all these resources are less efficient than face to face instruction. Our web design classes teach you what questions to ask, and how to answer them.

Which brings us to the first misconception about web design. You won’t build a stunning commercial quality website if you don’t first begin the design process with Photoshop. It’s a really bad idea to slice your Photoshop design into tables full of jpeg images. However, you can and should learn to use Photoshop first. Adobe Photoshop is an excellent tool for creating a mockup of the site. A Photoshop layout allows you to experiment with size, color and position long before you start building a template webpage in Dreamweaver. My Dreamweaver class begins with 7 hours of Photoshop instruction.

Areas of Photoshop you will need to master include:

* canvas size
* image resolution
* picking colors
* making selections
* working with layers and layer effects, layer masks and layer blending modes
* vector drawing tools
* slicing tool and why it is a bad idea
* animating gifs
* recording actions

The first step in designing a website with Dreamweaver is not to learn HTML, which Dreamweaver creates for you, but to learn CSS. In my Dreamweaver class, i use Adobes classroom in a book. The first lesson we tackle is lesson 7, using CSS to position your Photoshop layout. After you define a site and add a page, the first step is not to insert text and graphics, but to define the CSS rules.

Adobe provides an apt analogy. Adobe analogy says compares creating a website to a 3 legged stool. One leg is represented by the HTML, one leg is CSS and one leg is a scripting language like Javascript, PHP or ASP.

I encourage you to browse adobes tutorials, look at youtube videos, and read any of the books you find.

After all the time and money you invest, I recommend you take my class. As an experienced teacher, I can save you time and effort by focusing your learning experience on the most important information and the correct sequence of tasks.
